On an unsually dry day in mid-July 2007 and with the special permission of the Countess of Erroll,
the Tempsford Veterans and Relatives met up
at Gibraltar Barn Farm on Tempsford Airfield for a summer reunion. It was to be a truly memorable
occasion, graced with presence of not only RAF aircrew and ground crew veterans from the wartime operations of 138
and 161 squadrons and their families, but also with one of the courageous ladies of the French Resistance, who
during the dark days of the war, had stood in Nazi-occupied fields at night with a torch to guide the aircraft in. Families of those 138 and 161 Squadron aircrew who never returned were also present. Unknown to most present as they arrived, there was to be one very special visitor, the one remaining airworthy Westland Lysander in the UK, that performed a wonderful display (courtesy of the Shuttleworth Collection) at 11:15 over the barn, as a special tribute to those present. After greetings and numerous messages were read by Edwin Bryce, the Lysander suddenly appeared in the sky. After this moving display, Bob Body (former chief organiser of the TVAR) was presented with a specially commissioned painting of the barn by veteran Harold Watson. Later, there was a lovely service in the church of St. Peter's, Tempsford, led by the Revd Barbara Ebeling, and assisted by the organist and choir of Blunham church. This was then followed by lunch at the Wheatsheaf, Tempsford. Around this short record there are numerous small versions of photos taken on the day.
